An Odissi dancer born and brought up in Odisha. She has performed on various stages for more than 15 years. She was a disciple of Sh. (Dr) Gajendra Kumar Panda at “Deba Prasad Kala Tirtha” from Brahmapur, Odisha where she was introduced to late Guru Dr Deba Prasad Das style of Odissi. There, under the extensive tutelage of the eminent and able guru, Ms. Ratna Bharati learnt the nitty-gritty of the beautiful and the oldest surviving dance form of India – Odissi and blossomed into an able dancer of this form.
Having her debut performance on the stage at her very first alma-mater, she never looked back and went on to perform on many stages and received accolades for the same.
After shifting to Delhi for higher studies Ratna Bharati is a part of “Vaishali Kala Kendra”. There, under the guidance of Guru Dr. Jyoti Srivastava she is doing advanced studies in Odissi and on works done by late Guru Deba Prasad Das. She is also performing on all the latest choreography and production done by Guru Jyoti Srivastava.
Her major interest is to spread the beauty and history of Odissi Dance not only through dance performances but also to propagate the actual meaning of the choreography. With this aim, she is continuously researching on different topics related to Odissi dance. Currently, she has joined a group of Japanese Odissi dancers to help them in reading and explaining the Sanskrit and Odia parts of Abhinaya Chandrika. She also explains the terms relating to Odia culture and Hindu mythology and helps to convey the true spirit of the verses.
Along with learning, she is also teaching Odissi to children and making them perform during different events. Her main vision is to know and spread the academical aspect of Odissi
dance, different scriptures, different styles. She has attended various workshops and seminars on these topics. She has also worked as a freelancer and done choreography for Odissi dance presentations in schools for special assemblies.
